DETROIT (WKZO) -- The pace of razing unoccupied damaged houses in Detroit is increasing.

The city has $52 million in federal grants that it must use on the effort by next April and is on the verge of reaching 1,200 demolitions per month. City officials may allow sales of property where houses once stood to residents on either side of those lots.

More than one dozen companies are working on the demolitions, but the city is hoping to add more contracts.
