OTTAWA COUNTY, MI (WHTC) -- The Independence Day holiday weekend was a safer one than last year on Michigan roads. Preliminary figures released by the Michigan State Police indicate four people were killed in traffic crashes from July 3rd through July 6th. Two accidents involved motorcycles, one was a pedestrian, and the other was the driver of a vehicle who died. Police cite alcohol as a factor in two of the crashes. The “Michigan Night Patrol” will be making its rounds this Friday and Saturday. Law enforcement will be traveling I-196 and the 196 Business Loop in Holland and Zeeland from 10 P.M. until 5 A.M. both nights. The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign means zero tolerance for drunk driving – no excuses.
