WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC) - Will there be a road tax question for Ottawa County voters to decide this fall?
County commissioners are expected to vote on whether to place a 10-year, half-mill levy on the November 4th ballot later this month, but there are a couple of procedural matters that must be handled this afternoon before such a decision can be made. One is to wave a "90-day prior" requirement because Road Commissioners failed to submit this proposal to the Board in time. The other is to formally set a July 22nd public hearing on the matter before the Board's final vote that day.
County Commissioner Stu Visser of Park Township, in a recent appearance on WHTC's "Talk of the Town" program, told host Juke Van Oss that the levy would go towards repairing main roads, and that each municipality would get all of this millage's funds collected from property owners in their community.
