Tigers, Cups and Sox Lose; Whitecaps and the Netherlands Win

UNDATED (WHTC) -- The Tigers dropped their second game in a row to the Tampa Bay Rays, losing on Saturday, 7-2.  J.D. Martinez and Alex Avila hit solo home runs for the Tigers, who had won four straight prior to dropping the last two.  Anibal Sanchez allowed seven runs on six hits with four walks in 5 2/3 innings.  Rick Porcello takes the mound tonight for the Tigers, with David Price pitching for Tampa.  Broadcast on 1450 WHTC begins at 7:40 P.M.

The Cubs were trampled by the Nationals, 13-0 on Saturday.  Carlos Villanueva lasted two-plus innings and gave up four runs to fall to 4-and-6.  Justin Ruggiano collected two of the Cubs' five hits.  Chicago saw a four-game win streak end.  Jake Arrieta will be on the mound for the Cubs and Jordan Zimmerman is up for the Nationals in a game that happens this afternoon.

It took 14-innings to decide a winner, but Brad Miller's RBI double pushed the Mariners past the White Sox 3-2 at U.S. Cellular Field.  The White Sox mustered only four hits in the loss with Dayan Viciedo and Tyler Flowers plating a run each.  Jose Quintana struck out 10 over seven-and-two-thirds innings of shutout ball for the no-decision.

The West Michigan Whitecaps slugged four home runs and got flawless relief in an 8-4 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Saturday night at Parkview Field.  West Michigan won for the seventh time in their last nine games.  Austin Kubitza earned the win with five innings of work, surrendering four runs – three earned – on five hits. The Whitecaps continue their 10-game road trip this afternoon against Fort Wayne.
