Scherzer Sharp Against Rays; 'Caps Lose Slugfest

UNDATED (WHTC) - Max Scherzer allowed two hits and struck out seven over eight innings, while Torii Hunter, Ian Kinzler, JD Martinez and Victor Martinez each drove in two runs, as the Tigers beat visiting Tampa Bay last night, 8-1, for their sixth straight win. The series in Detroit continues this evening. Coverage from Comerica Park on 1450 WHTC begins at 6:40 PM.

After taking last night off, both of Chicago’s teams are back in action to start holiday weekend series, as the Cubs visit Washington in an 11 AM matinee, and the White Sox entertain Seattle this evening.

Grayson Greiner had three hits, including a homer, and drove in four runs for the Whitecaps last night, but it was an RBI single by Anthony Alford in the top of the eighth inning that proved to be the winning hit, as visiting Lansing outscored West Michigan at Fifth Third Ballpark, 9-8. The ‘Caps now embark on a 10-game road trip, their longest in five years, beginning with the opener of a three-game series in Fort Wayne against the Tincaps this evening.
