HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - A nearly two-month-long search for a new men’s basketball coach at Hope College ended yesterday with the naming of Greg Mitchell to guide the Flying Dutchmen.
The 11th men’s hoops mentor in school history spent 25 years at Laingsburg High near Lansing after graduating from Hope in 1989, guiding the Wolfpack to 362 wins and a state Class C finals berth in 2013. Mitchell played four years under Glenn Van Wieren and still holds the school record for the best career three-point shooting percentage at 46.4.
Mitchell replaces Matt Neil, who left in early May after four years at the helm following Van Wieren's retirement. The school and Neil remain silent as to what led to his apparently abrupt departure.
