LANSING, MI (WTVB) - As snowy and icy as the roads have been so far in 2014 in Branch County, you probably don’t, or you shouldn’t be thinking too much right now about faster driving. However, take note that in the coming weeks, legislators will review a proposal to raise the speed limits on most Michigan roads. There is discussion of setting those limits based upon scientific studies that indicate what a safe speed would be on a specific road when 85% of the cars are moving at or below the limit while the rest are speeding.
Some highways may see limits increased from 55-to-70-miles per hour with others increasing to 75-miles per hour. Neighborhood street limits would remain at 25.
