SAUGATUCK TWP., MI (WHTC) - It took a while to get a armed man out of a mobile home unit south of Saugatuck/Douglas this morning.
State police troopers and special services officers used bull horns, spent a lot of time talking, and even threw tear gas canisters during the night into the trailer in the Johnson Village complex off of the Blue Star Highway. They had been called to the scene on a felonious assault report around 6:30 PM, and the suspect eventually surrendered without incident at 8:45 AM. Utility crews were ready to shut off the power and heat in an effort to force the man out, but it wasn’t immediately known if that measure had to be used, and a police bomb squad was on standby as a precaution. The complex was cordoned off, residents in other trailers were asked to stay inside until the situation was resolved, and there were no reports of injuries.
The unnamed man was taken to the Allegan County Jail and awaits arraignment on a variety of charges.
