HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - There doesn’t seem to be any end of the winter weather in sight along the Lakeshore.
Schools across the entire Lakeshore didn’t wait until the pre-dawn hours this morning to cancel classes, issuing “snow day” dismissals by 10:30 last night, thanks to the combination of strong winds, several more inches of snow and chills in double figures below zero. It’s the third such widespread cancellation in the last six scheduled school days, and the fifth since the winter semester was supposed to begin on January 6th. Roads were snow covered and slippery during the morning commute, compelling dispatchers to ask motorists to stay off of those roads until plows can effectively clear them off.
A Winter Weather Advisory for Allegan and Ottawa counties runs through 7 PM on Monday, with a Wind Chill Watch set to begin at 4 PM on Monday and go until 7 AM on Wednesday. Forecasters say that temperatures will moderate as the week goes along, but the chances of snow will remain through the upcoming weekend.
