Saturday Night Accident Leaves Two Dead

An accident in Grand Haven on Saturday night ended with the deaths of two people.  The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department responded to the accident on Mercury Drive at the intersection of Robbins Road just after 8 P.M.  Sergeant Steve Austin reports that 53-year-old Gaylee Burns of Grand Haven lost control of her vehicle in the northbound lane of Mercury Drive, turning sideways into the opposite lane.  Scott Miller, also of Grand Haven, was southbound when his pickup broadsided Burns vehicle.  Witnesses say he was unable to stop and avoid the accident.

Ms. Burns was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her front seat passenger, 55-year-old Lewis Burns, Jr suffered life threatening injuries and later passed away from his injuries at Hackley Hospital just after midnight.  No word on what charges, if any, will be made in connection with the investigation.
