HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The Lakeshore is getting a wintry respite after as much as 14 inches fell in parts of the Holland area over a 13-hour period that ended overnight. Dangerous wind chills could descend this evening, and another lake-effect blast predicted for tomorrow has led to a Winter Storm Watch for Allegan and Ottawa counties that begins at 7 AM. Forecasters say cold temperatures and occasional snow could extend through the weekend.
The weather is being blamed for a five-vehicle pileup on southbound I-196 near Glenn that closed the highway for around five hours last night, as Allegan County Sheriff's deputies say that a collision of two semis triggered the accident. Initial reports of one serious injury as a result of the wreck proved to be unfounded, as no involved motorists had ailments that required medical attention.
