HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- The national commemoration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. takes place on Monday, January 20th and continues through the week. In keeping with the commemoration, the Reverend Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd, will present the address: “The Heart of an Activist: Grow Local, Think Global” on Tuesday, January 21st. Dr. Boyd is the president-elect of Alabama State University and will begin her tenure on February 1st. She is the first woman to hold that position and also the first African-American to earn a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Yale University. Her address is the 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. Civil Rights Lecture and takes place next Tuesday at 7 P.M. in Hope College’s Dimnent Memorial Chapel. The public is invited and admission is free.
