DETROIT, MI (WTVB) -5,000 reporters are expected to descend on Cobo Hall in Detroit today for the first press day at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. The media has been told to expect fifty new car and truck debuts at the show this year from 16 automakers who own 35 brands. Among those reporters will be Mark Phelan, auto industry reporter for the Detroit News. He says the mood is very positive as the show opens with automakers from all over the world in Motown expressing their belief that the American economy is doing well and will continue to do well this year and they’re bringing their new vehicles and their best vehicles because they know they need to make a big splash.
Over 700 cars, trucks, SUV’s and vans, from tiny green compacts to hugely expensive luxury and sports vehicles will be on display. Visitors will be able to see everything from cars selling in showrooms right now to exotic-concept cars that will never be for sale. Two highly anticipated unveilings include two muscle cars, the 2015 Ford Mustang and the 2015 Corvette Z06. A number of dignitaries and elected officials are expected to get preview tours this week before the show opens to the public this weekend.
