GENEVA TWP., MI (WHTC) - Van Buren County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a 38-year-old South Haven man and a 36-year-old South Haven woman on Saturday afternoon after a report of a shooting at a home east of that community.
According to authorities, deputies were called to the residence in the 66 thousand block of 8th Avenue and found the two walking along the roadway nearby. The man, a known felon with a long criminal history, was carrying a .22 caliber handgun in a holster along the waist, and admitted firing a round outside of the home, but hadn't been aiming at anybody, and was walking towards a friend's house to show the weapon. The woman was carrying marijuana. Reports that there had been a domestic assault were denied by the unnamed couple, and investigators couldn't find any evidence to substantiate any claims of an assault.
Both of them were arrested on various charges and are spending the rest of the weekend in the Van Buren County Jail pending an arraignment in South Haven District Court.
