JACKSON (WKZO) -- Consumers Energy customers broke the utility's record for natural gas usage on Tuesday as frigid Arctic air enveloped the state. A new hourly record was set from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. with 146,367-million cubic feet of natural gas delivered, breaking the record set in February 1996 by well over 300-million cubic feet. Consumers Energy nearly broke its 24-hour record for natural gas delivery from 8 p.m. Monday to 8 p.m. Tuesday when 3.14-billion cubic feet of gas were used to heat homes.
