UNDATED (WHTC) -- The Michigan Department of Transportation is looking to add sand into the mix of tools at hand to clear out trouble. The temperatures have been so cold that salt on the roadways has not been effective in melting it down. In fact there have been so many spinouts that as of yesterday evening, Triple-A-Michigan had received 52-hundred calls for service, compared with about three-thousand calls in a typical 24-hour period. Sand is being hauled in to help drivers get additional traction but it comes with its own set of pitfalls. It can clog filtration systems and had has to be cleared away after the danger has passed.
