UNDATED (WHTC) -- An 18-wheeler driver was in the wrong place at the wrong time on CSX railroad tracks just after noon today. The Ottawa county Sheriff’s Office says an 18-wheeler driven by 64-year-old Bruce Peterson was leaving a local business. He pulled up to the railroad tracks and that’s where trouble began. Sergeant Steve Austin says part of the truck's front end was over the tracks. Due to whiteout conditions, Peterson said he could not see or hear the train.
An eastbound CSX train pulling 41 cars struck the front end of the 18-wheeler. The engineer said he applied all emergency breaking but could not stop in time to avoid the impact. Luckily, no one was injured and no citations were issued.
