HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- Downtown Holland is hosting an ice sculpture contest this coming weekend . More than 20 carvers will take part in the two-day event, transforming giant blocks of ice into glistening works of art. Downtown Holland Event Coordinator Niki Kloosterman says during the first day of competition, the carvers will be using 100 pound blocks of ice. They use all kind of different items to do the carving: chisels, torches and whatever will make the ice into their creation.
The competition begins Friday the 10th, on Eighth Street with a buffet-style compulsory competition between 6 and 8 P.M. Saturday the 11th, an ice sculpting demonstration and seminar take place between 10 and 11 A.M. The free style competition takes place Saturday afternoon between 12:30 and 4:30 P.M.
