HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The Lakeshore may have escaped the wintry blast that roared east of here last week, but Old Man Winter’s attentions have turned to the Holland/Zeeland area in full fury.
Cancellations started trickling late yesterday afternoon, turned into a torrent by mid-evening, and have led to all school districts, public and private, from elementary buildings to colleges such as Hope, GVSU, Davenport, and Western Theological Seminary calling off classes for today. This was due to the predicted combination of up to eight fresh inches of snow by tomorrow morning, along with strong winds that will lead to blowing and drifting, and wind chills as low as 30 below. Public and private institutions are also affected, with businesses such as Trendway and county government offices and courts in Allegan, Ottawa and Van Buren counties closing for the day.
The National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids is maintaining a Winter Storm Warning for Allegan and Ottawa counties through 8 AM on Tuesday, with a Wind Chill Warning for the same region from 7 AM Monday through 7 PM Tuesday.
