MHSAA girls’ basketball state district finals this evening: Holland Christian versus Hamilton at Zeeland West; West Ottawa versus Wyoming at Jenison; Black River versus North Muskegon at Fennville.


Melissa Lareau scored 14 points as Hope’s women downed visiting Adrian last night, 71-48. Grand Valley State split a basketball doubleheader at Ferris State last night. The Lakers lost the women’s opener, 59-56, as Dena Droste tallied 16 points for the Bulldogs, but GVSU took the men’s nightcap in overtime, 74-73, behind 23 points from Rob Woodson. The Lakers will await results of tomorrow’s league action before making any GLIAC tournament plans.

In state major college basketball last night: Wisconsin-Milwaukee 68, Detroit 62; Green Bay 71, Oakland 63.


Johan Franzen had three goals as the Red Wings won in Ottawa last night, 6-1. Detroit visits New Jersey on Tuesday evening, with broadcast time on 1450 WHTC at 6:40 PM.

Goals by Derek Brassard and Rick Nash enabled the New York Rangers to edge the visiting Blackhawks last night, 2-1. Chicago welcomes Pittsburgh to the United Center tomorrow evening.
