UNDATED (WHTC) -- It’s great to deal with roads that are not covered with snow and ice but there is a downside. Potholes are already beginning to appear and will only get bigger and more numerous. The real problem lies with the fact that winter budgets are running low and fixing potholes will cut into summer maintenance budgets. At this point, MDOT expects to exceed its winter budget by $40 million. Summer budget cuts will most affect non-safety activities such as mowing, brush and tree-cutting and garbage clean-up.
