DETROIT (WKZO) -- Reverend Horace Sheffield III has announced he will run against incumbent U.S. Representative John Conyers in the 13th Congressional District's Democratic primary. Thursday, Sheffield said the 84-year-old is not capable of representing the needs of his Wayne County district. Conyers, who was first elected to Congress in 1965, is the second-longest serving member behind Dearborn Democrat John Dingell.
Sheffield is facing a misdemeanor count of domestic violence from an incident involving his wife last month. All candidates for Congress have until April 22nd to submit at least one-thousand signatures on a petition to be placed on August's primary ballot.
