Dutchmen Seek Outright MIAA Crown; Holland, Hamilton Meet at Dome

Hope College can clinch an outright MIAA men’s basketball championship tonight as the Flying Dutchmen travel to Adrian. Broadcast time on 92-7 The Van and 927.thevan.com is 7:10 p.m. The Hope women have one final nonleague tuneup before next week’s MIAA tournament as the Flying Dutch host Rochester. Tip-off time 3 p.m. 

             Bad weather forced the cancellation of most local high school basketball games last night. In boys’ action, West Ottawa defeated Grand Haven 53-47. Holland High and Hamilton will make up their postponed game from last night late this afternoon at the Dutch Dome, with broadcast time on 1450 WHTC and whtc.com at 5:10. In girls’ action, West Ottawa completed a perfect season in the O-K Red with a 53-34 win over Grand Haven, Saugatuck downed Lawrence 36-24 and Black River defeated Zion Christian 55-30.

            Greg Monroe scored 22 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as the Pistons defeated Atlanta 115-107 in the NBA last night. Detroit hosts Dallas tonight at the Palace. The Bulls, meanwhile, routed Denver 117-89 at the United Center. Chicago travels to Miami tomorrow to face the Heat.

            In the AHL, the Griffins fell to Oklahoma City 4-2 in front of nearly 11,000 at Van Andel Arena. The Griffins and Barons face off again tonight at Van Andel, with the first puck drop at 7 p.m.
