Officers testify about capture of Eric Knysz

LUDINGTON (WKZO) -- Police officers responding to the shooting of State Trooper Paul Butterfield last fall took the stand in day two of the murder trial of Eric Knysz Thursday in Ludington. Nearly a dozen were called to testify, with Trooper Steve Arendt recalling shooting the suspect twice as he tried to run away and refused an order to drop his gun.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy John Bennett found the truck Knysz was driving when he allegedly killed Butterfield, noting it had blood spatters and the suspect’s mother was behind the wheel. Knysz by then had allegedly stolen another car and was caught while filling it up with gas.
