LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Department of Transportation officials are warning the agency might run out of salt for the roads if the weather doesn’t break soon. In a statement. MDOT Director Kirk Steudle noted they’ve used 80-percent more salt so far than at the same time last year, and expects to use about 600-thousand tons by the end of winter. The department is starting to talk to county road commissions and cities to find out how the remaining supply can be redistributed where it’s needed.
