HOPKINS, MI (WHTC) - The Allegan County Health Department has issued a health advisory for body contact with the waters of Bear Creek and the Rabbit River after an unknown amount of liquid manure was released on Friday into Weicks Drain. It reportedly came from a leak at a Hopkins area farm, which was "located and eliminated" the following day, according to department officials, who are monitoring the situation with state DEQ staffers. The advisory not only applies to human contact, but also to fishing or other recreational activity until water levels are deemed safe; no timetable as to when that might occur has been established.
