ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WHTC) -- It’s been a long time coming but the new Allegan County jail is nearing completion. In May of 2010, the Allegan County Board of Commissioners approved placing a 20-year bond proposal on the August ballot which voters rejected. After some revamping, the bond was put on the ballot for November 2010 and was also rejected. In August of 2011, the County Commission came up with a funding plan method that doesn’t require voter approval or higher taxes. Officials are planning a public dedication and open house on March 8th. The target date for housing inmates is March 31st.
