Maroons Edge Dutch In High School Hoops, Hope Hosts Basketball Doubleheader


HOLLAND (WHTC) - Kyle Steigenga scored 21 points as Holland Christian defeated Holland 41-38 in high school basketball action Friday at the Dutch Dome. In other boys action: Zeeland West romped past Hamilton 76-56, Zeeland East downed Grand Rapids Union 52-44, East Kentwood dumped West Ottawa 59-48, Saugatuck rolled Bangor 74-46, Fennville cruised by Martin 64-47 and Black River fell 77-42 to Algoma Christian. In girls’ hoop action, Holland Christian had no problem with Holland, 55-31, West Ottawa won its 11th straight, 45-28 over East Kentwood, Hamilton downed Zeeland West 51-42, Zeeland East lost to Grand Rapids Union 37-33, Saugatuck rolled past Bangor 68-40 and Fennville fell to Martin, 62-36.


Both Hope College basketball teams are at DeVos Fieldhouse today. The Flying Dutch can clinch an outright MIAA women’s championship with a win over Trine, while the Flying Dutchmen host Alma in a night game. You can hear both Hope games on the Lakeshore’s 92-7 The Van, with the women’s game at 2:40 p.m. and the men at 7:10 p.m. In other college basketball action, Grand Valley hosts Northwood in a GLIAC doubleheader, while Western Michigan hosts Miami of Ohio for men’s action.
