GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) - One man was sentenced for having sex with a 13-year-old Ottawa County girl, while another is facing more charges for wanting to do the same to an Allegan County girl of the same age.
Manuel Salto’s attorney told Kent County Circuit Court Judge Dennis Lieber that her client thought that the unnamed Jenison teen was 22 years old. However, Lieber, who had ordered the 38-year-old Grand Rapids man to jail time and probation for a 2012 fondling incident involving a 10-year-old Wyoming girl, threw the proverbial book at Salto yesterday, sending him to prison for between 10 and 23 years for pleading guilty to impregnating the victim, who has since aborted the baby. Salto had developed an online relationship with the teen last fall, and she was found at his west side residence in December after running away from home.
Meanwhile, federal enticement and interstate CSC charges were filed yesterday against Joseph Arpin, a 34-year-old man who drove from his Southern California home last fall to meet with and take an unnamed Hamilton girl. This was also an online relationship situation, and the pair was found in Crestwood Missouri shortly after the victim had run away from home. The teen was unhurt in this incident. Arpin is already facing state kidnapping charges.
