WATCH: Zeeland Superintendent Discusses State Funding & Making Up Snow Days


HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - Because of all the snow days this winter, Michigan lawmakers have considered allowing  districts to add minutes to their school days to help them meet the annual standard for instruction required by the state. The State Board of Education though has now gone on record opposing the idea, saying that children need a full day of instruction to get the same benefits as losing a day, and that school districts that have gone beyond the their allowed snow days should add days this June.Any number of school districts have already announced that no matter what the legislature does, they will be making up any lost days this summer.

Meanwhile, school administrators are looking closely at Governor Snyder's proposed Fiscal 2015 budget, hoping that pledged funding increases for K-12 public education will make it through the legislative process when the spending plan is approved this spring.
