HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - Holland City Council members will huddle with retained legal counsel behind closed doors this evening, going over options after the state Supreme Court refused to hear their appeal of a lower court ruling that overturned City Clerk Jenifer French’s dismissal over tax fraud allegations. She was sacked nearly eight years ago when reports surfaced about residency and homestead tax issues involving homes she and her husband own on Holland’s South Shore neighborhood and in Saugatuck Township. An arbitrator upheld the firing, but the courts overturned the ruling, ordering French reinstated with full back pay. Her attorney is reportedly saying that his client is looking forward to returning to her job. Deputy Clerk Anna Perales and Assistant City Manager Greg Robinson have been handling the clerk’s duties since French’s discharge in May of 2006.
