Bill proposes naming governor's Capitol office after Engler

LANSING (WKZO) -- A bill now before a state House committee would rename the office used inside the state Capitol after former Governor John Engler.  He served three terms as governor after defeating incumbent Democrat Jim Blanchard in 1990 and was elected to the House at the age of 22.

Shelby Township Republican Peter Lund is sponsoring the bill and believes Engler "changed the direction" of the state and is hoping history reflects Engler’s legacy positively.  The governor’s office in the Capitol is ceremonial, while most of the day-to-day work is done across the street in the Romney Building.
