TALLMADGE TWP., MI (WHTC) - High snow banks from drifting and plowing may have led to an injury crash between two Tallmadge Township men in eastern Ottawa County yesterday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Austin, 28-year-old Brent Lundberg was pulling his car out of a private driveway off of 8th Avenue south of Lake Michigan Drive, while 46-year-old Nicholas Kleyn was driving his van filled with four passengers on the roadway. Lundberg apparently didn’t see Kleyn’s van approaching and went right into its path, causing an unavoidable broadside collision.
Lundberg, his 25-year-old passenger Meghan Hansen of Marcellus, and Kleyn’s 17-year-old daughter Sharon, who was seated in the back seat of the van, were all taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Nicholas Kleyn and the other three passengers in his van were unhurt.
All involved were buckled up, and deputies wrote up Lundberg for a civil failing to yield right of way ticket, as the crash remains under investigation.
