HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The matter of Jenifer French won’t go away from Holland City Hall.
City officials are huddling with legal counsel today to discuss options after the state Supreme Court stayed a lower court ruling ordering the city to reinstate French as City Clerk with back pay. She was sacked nearly eight years ago after allegations surfaced about residency and a homestead property tax exemption for homes in both Holland’s South Shore neighborhood and in Saugatuck Township. An arbitrator upheld the dismissal, but Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Ed Post overturned that decision. A second arbitrator ruled for the city, and the state Court of Appeals overturned that call, leading to the high court’s 6-1 verdict not to consider the case.
It is not known what French’s intentions are at this point. Deputy Clerk Anna Perales and Assistant City Manager Greg Robinson have shared the clerk’s office duties since the dismissal.
