Red Wings, Blackhawks Lose Going into Olympic Break

UNDATED (WHTC) -- NHL  Daniel Alfredsson and Tomas Jurco each scored for Detroit in a 4-2 loss to the Lightning in Tampa.  Jimmy Howard had 24 saves in the loss. 

The Blackhawks dropped their last game before the Olympic break to the Coyotes, 2-0.  Corey Crawford stopped 24-of-26 shots for Chicago

The NHL is now officially on the Olympic All-Star break.

The Grand Rapids Griffins completed their season series sweep of the Rochester Americans with a 5-1 win Saturday.  The Griffins resume play after a break for the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic on Feb. 11-12 with a two-game series against the San Antonio Rampage on Feb. 14 and 15 at Van Andel Arena.

NBA Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings both went off as the Pistons cruised to a 126-109 win against the Nuggets at The Palace of Auburn Hills.  Jennings had a double-double with 35 points and 12 assists, while Smith just missed out on a triple-double with 30 points, 10 rebounds, eight helpers and four steals.

The Chicago Bulls put the finishing touches on their six-game western road trip today against the Los Angeles Lakers.

OLYMPICS     American Jamie Anderson has won gold in the women's snowboarding slopestyle.  Anderson’s win gave Team USA a sweep of the new Olympic event.  Sage Kostenburg won the event on the men's side on Saturday.  American Bode Miller came up short in his bid for gold in men's downhill skiing, clipping a gate, slowing him down to an eighth-place finish.  Norway remains atop the medal board at the Sochi Olympics.  The Norwegians have six medals in all.  The Netherlands is second with four medals, while the US has a pair of golds and three medals total.

NFL  The Lions are keeping center Dominic Raiola in Detroit for at least one more season.  The two sides have agreed on a one-year deal that includes a raise from the veteran's 1-million-dollar base salary he was paid last season.  The 35-year-old has spent his entire career with the Lions, since selected him in the second round out of Nebraska in 2001.  Raiola hasn't missed a game over the past five seasons.
