DETROIT (WKZO) -- The Red Wings are a step closer to a new home after the Detroit City Council has approved a land transfer deal which opens the door for a new hockey arena near Woodward Avenue and I-75. The panel voted 6-3 Tuesday in favor of the agreement, which guarantees security at the facility and creates a neighborhood advisory council. The arena will take up eight blocks of a planned 45-block entertainment district which will also include retail and residential space along with a hotel and parking facilities.
