UNDATED (WHTC) -- The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office has some tips for parents and students going back to school this week. Parents, if you plan to drive your child to school, be aware of school rules for drop off and pick up. If your child is walking to school, take time to do a pre-walk with them so that they feel comfortable and safe on the route. Point out safe places to cross the street and dangerous areas not to. Students walking should wear light colored clothing and remain on sidewalks. If there are no sidewalks or bike paths available, students should walk along the side of the road facing traffic. When biking to school, ride with traffic. For kids riding the bus, point out all bus stop locations to them, re-enforce school bus safety rules and make sure to arrive a little early.
