ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) - A former Allegan County Commissioner will be spending the Labour Day holiday behind bars.
Terry Burns begins a 30-day stretch in the Allegan County Jail tomorrow, the first of two such stints, after his sentencing on Monday. The 71-year-old one-time Saugatuck Township Supervisor had pleaded guilty to embezzling several thousand dollars from the account of Joseph Migas, the former Mi Ro Golf Course owner who Burns became a legal guardian to. The girlfriend of the victim helped detectives uncover the case about a year ago.
Burns will be released from jail on September 30th, and then return for another 30-day stint on Halloween. Another hearing in December will determine if he will serve another 60 days in jail.
