HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - The Macatawa Area Coordinating Council’s Policy Committee, made up of elected leaders from the Lakeshore’s communities, heard a presentation from state Department of Transportation officials of various proposals to solve a traffic problem on M-40 around the I-196 junction in Holland. Two high-profile fatal crashes involving passenger vehicles who were unable to stop in time under wintry conditions when tractor trailers were pulling out of the Tulip City Truck Stop led a public cry to resolve perceived motoring issues along that stretch of trunk road that connects Holland with Allegan. The committee asked for more information before endorsing any plans. Around 1.66 million dollars in federal and state highway money has been set aside for any M-40 improvement project.
