HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - The rules of the road not only apply to motor vehicles, but also to bicyclists, as a 19-year-old Holland man found out the hard way on Holland’s North Side late yesterday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant David VanderPloeg, Nicholas Terpstra was pedaling north on 132nd Avenue, while 28-year-old Brian Conrad of Fennville was driving his vehicle eastbound on Riley Street. Terpstra had stopped for the stop sign, but instead of waiting for traffic to fully clear, he moved ahead into the intersection and into the path of Conrad. The collision knocked the cyclist off of his bike.
Terpstra was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries; Conrad was not hurt. The crash remains under investigation.
