DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - A federal judge in Detroit today hears arguments in the lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union over the state's refusal to recognize legal gay marriages. Keith Orr and his husband Martin Contreras got married in Michigan before a federal appeals court stayed a ruling striking down the state's gay marriage ban. The state has not recognized any of those unions, but the ACLU argues the state cannot "undo" the legal marriages. The lawsuit was filed in April.
Orr says he's expecting a long fight before his marriage will be recognized by the state.
