BLENDON TWP., MI (WHTC) - A 51-year-old Zeeland man had died from injuries sustained while attempting to help two teenaged girls in Blendon Township.
David Pierson had stopped his vehicle on Port Sheldon Street west of 56th Avenue around 9:30 on Saturday night to see if he could help the women whose car veered off of the roadway and into a ditch. As he and one of the women were talking outside of his vehicle that had no lights on at the time, Jeremy Vedders slammed his vehicle into them; the 22-year-old Hudsonville man claimed that he couldn’t see them in the dark.
Pierson and 17-year-old Samantha Brown of Hudsonville were taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries; Brown was treated for minor injuries and released. Vedders and the driver of the vehicle in the ditch, 18-year-old Jenna Esterley of Jenison, were apparently unhurt.
The crash remains under investigation.
