WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC) - A 35-year-old West Olive man can consider himself fortunate that catching 40 winks behind the wheel didn’t end up being something more permanent.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christie Wendt, Daniel Borgman was driving his car northbound on US-31 when he dozed off before reaching Van Buren Street around 10:30 last night. His vehicle veered left across the center median and the southbound lanes devoid of traffic at the time, through a ditch and a fence cordoning off CHS Hamilton’s West Michigan Mills complex, and across the parking lot before smashing into a train car loaded with corn that was on a rail siding.
The buckled up Borgman suffered minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
