ROBINSON TWP., MI (WHTC) - What authorities feared was a tragedy in Robinson Township last night turned out to be the latest instance of a new fad in online gaming.
Several prowl cars raced to a home off of 144th Avenue and Mercury Drive southeast of Grand Haven after a 14-year-old boy told dispatchers that he had shot his parents and tied up his brother at the residence. When deputies arrived, the parents said that they were fine and that no violent action had occurred. What detectives discovered was that a teen in the house was online with several games, one of whom placed the “swatting” hoax call.
The matter remains under investigation, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer (877-88-SILENT; http://mosotips.com).
