UNDATED (WHTC) - There were separate hit-and-run incidents in Ottawa County less than three hours and several miles apart last evening.
The first was on northbound US-31 near James Street on Holland’s North Side around 5 PM in which a car with two 33-year-old Mexican nationals rearended a stopped vehicle, causing it to collide with another vehicle. As the man and women fled into the Holland Center Mall and were eventually captured about a mile away from the scene, the two other drivers involved suffered bumps and bruises. The suspects spent the overnight in the Ottawa County Jail awaiting arraignment on charges.
About two and a half hours later, 23-year-old Christian Reed of Marne was seriously injured when he was struck by a grey or white late-model Honda as he was walking along Ironwood Drive near 2nd Avenue in the Standale area. He was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment; the hit-and-run driver remains at large.
Both crashes remain under investigation; tips to Ottawa County Sheriff's detectives or Silent Observer (877-88-SILENT; http://mosotips.com) are welcome.
