BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI (WTVB) - You probably have heard about the death Monday by apparent suicide of Oscar winning comedian and actor Robin Williams but did you know about Williams’ connections to Michigan. He was born in Chicago but grew up in Bloomfield Hills, where his dad was a Ford executive and he went to Detroit Country Day School. Gene Siskel once wrote the private school left him “Tightly wound”. Williams spent the rest of his life unwinding.
He moved to California his senior year in high school in 1968, the summer of love. Williams battled substance abuse most of his life, and was said to be deeply depressed when he died. Robin Williams dead at 63.
