Tigers Win: Cubs, White Sox and Whitecaps Fall

UNDATED (WHTC) -- The Tigers pummeled the Rockies at Comerica Park on Saturday night, 11-5.  Alex Avila finished with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored and Rick Porcello pitched eight strong innings and got his the 13th win of the season.  Other contributions to the win came from Victor Martinez, who hit a three-run home run, while J.D.  Martinez and Miguel Cabrera each added solo homers for the Tigers, who have taken the first two games of this three-game set.  The series continues at 12:40 P.M. on 1450 WHTC.


The Cubs fell to the L.A. Dodgers, 5-2 in Los Angeles on Saturday.  Japanese southpaw, Tsuyoshi Wada, surrendered two runs on six hits with six strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.  LA's Josh Beckett will face Edwin Jackson in the rubber match today.


A late inning rally spurred the Minnesota Twins past the White Sox on Saturday, 8-6.  The Sox bats provided offense with Mark Eaton doubling three times among his four hits and drove in two, Alexei Ramirez adding a solo homer and knocking in a pair, while Gordon Beckham hit safely twice and drove in two for the White Sox.  The Twins and White Sox meet again this afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field.


The red hot Whitecaps were cooled down a bit on Saturday, after being shut-out by the TinCaps, 6-0.  It’s the first time the Whitecaps have been shutout during the second half of the season.   The ‘Caps conclude their home stand with the rubber match of a three-game series against Fort Wayne this afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
