GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - The next time Michael Calanchi wants a beer, he will be of legal drinking age.
The 20-year-old Holland Township man was convicted by a jury earlier this month of armed robbery and resisting and obstructing, stemming from a December 13th incident at a Family Fare supermarket on Butternut Drive. Calanchi reportedly walked in, attempted to swipe a case of beer, grabbed a butcher knife and chased everybody out of the store, and when deputies arrived, he started throwing items off of the shelves at them. He was finally subdued with a Taser shot. Judge Jon Hulsing handed down a sentence this morning of at least four years in prison; Calanchi was given a mandatory term as a repeat offender.
