HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- April 22nd has been celebrated as Earth Day since 1970 and has been global since 1990. Hope College is celebrating Earth Day 2014 by replacing a 160-year-old elm tree that was lost to a storm with a Princeton elm which is disease resistant. Grounds manager Robert Hunt says there’s also another reason for celebration tomorrow. Hope is being certified by the Michigan Turfgrass Environmental Stewardship Program, culminating an extensive, multi-year reviews of the college's grounds management practices. The tree planting ceremony takes place in front of the President’s Home at 11 A.M., which is located on 10th St. between College and Columbia Avenues.
