UNDATED (WHTC) -- Today was filing day for candidates seeking partisan and nonpartisan office in the August primary. This year, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Representative for Michigan's 2nd congressional district is Dean Vanderstelt. His Republican opponent is the incumbent, Bill Huizenga. Vanderstelt says he wants to fix the stalemate in Washington, D.C. Vanderstelt says he wants to help break up the finger-pointing in Washington D.C. In a press release on Tuesday, he got more than the 1600 signatures required by the State Election Bureau. The Democratic candidate in the last election, Willie German Jr., was a write-in candidate.
